Bites & Sights at the Bay (St Kilda Tour)

Group of 8 women on Bay Bikes E-bikes at St Kilda Pier during the St Kilda Tour.

Overview

On this bike tour you will see some of Melbourne's most Iconic landmarks, explore local cafes and restaurants and see beautiful views of Port Philip Bay and the Melbourne skyline. Stop at the world-famous Brighton Bathing Boxes, get a take-away coffee at Beach House Brighton and take photos at the colourful boxes! Ride along the beach to Pt Ormond for panoramic views. Continue along the bustling St. Kilda promenade for a stop at the spectacular St Kilda Pier. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a venue of your choice in St Kilda (we have some great suggestions!). After you have fueled up, ride around Albert Park Lake - Melbourne's Formula 1 track - before heading back to Sandringham. We can recommend a stop for afternoon tea at North Point Brighton.

  • 33 Kilometers return - 5 to 6 Hours
  • Riders must be at least 12 years old & ~150 cm tall (and be accompanied by an adult). Kids under 12 can ride as a passenger with an adult as our e-bikes are 2-person bikes (max. weight 150kg). For this tour we don't allow 2 adults per bike as this will reduce the durability of the battery.

Highlights

  • The first stop is at the Brighton Bathing Boxes. One of the most photographed spots of Victoria and top Melbourne sightseeing destination. Optional: get a (take away) coffee from Beach House Brighton.
  • Ride as close as you can get to the beach on the bike path along Elwood Beach. Cruise slowly to take in the views and the vibrant atmosphere on warm days.
  • Once you reach Point Ormond, park your bikes and walk to the top of the hill. There you will be rewarded with impressive panoramic views over Port Phillip Bay and Melbourne's skyline to the North. Another great photo spot in Victoria.
  • Continue your journey on the Bay Trail which offers beautiful views. Ride past the St. Kilda Marina to the next Melbourne Icon: St. Kilda Pier. Park your bikes and walk on the pier and stroll or ride through the historic Catani Gardens.
  • Ride to your lunch stop in St Kilda. We can recommend 'The Sandbar', 'West Beach Pavilion' and 'Republica St Kilda'. They all offer beautiful views on the Bay and great food!
  • Time to burn some rubber. Ride to Albert Park to do a lap around the lake - Melbourne's Grand Prix Circuit.
  • On the way back you can decide to ride through Fitzroy Street (we recommend this for confident riders and adults only, as it gets busy). Or take the beach bike path to Luna Park and the Palais Theatre. Take photos at the iconic "Mr. Moon" face, flanking towers, or watch the Great Scenic Railway go around.
  • Time to go back to Sandringham. Take in the views of the ocean, the beautiful architecture of the houses along Beach Road and the occasional classic or sports car driving past while cruising back to Bay Bikes. Optional: stop at North Point Brighton for afternoon tea.

FAQs

What level of fitness is required for this tour? This tour, like our standard e-bike rental, is suitable for everyone in good physical health to participate in bicycling. Our E-bikes require less effort than a standard bike and therefore this tour is suitable for people with a low to average physical fitness level.

Is E-bike experience required? No, if you are capable of riding a standard bike, you will be able to ride an E-bike. In fact, you might find it easier as it requires less effort. Intermediate biking experience is recommended, as the area where we will be riding can get quite busy.

What do I need to bring?

  • Wear weather appropriate and suitable clothing for bike riding.
  • A water bottle (our bikes are fitted out with a drink bottle holder).
  • Sunscreen & sunglasses in case of warm weather, rain jacket or poncho in case of rainy weather.
  • Camera or phone for photos. Your dedicated guide will be happy taking group photos for you as well.
